History of The Destin Fishing Rodeo
The Fishing Rodeo originated in 1948 by a group of businesspeople who wanted to extend the local fishing season. Another goal of this action was to drive more tourism to the Destin area. It was a successful effort and today boasts over 36,000 anglers every year.
The fishing rodeo has broken state and even world records for many fish species. With the number of fish caught and the size of the fish, it's easy to see why Destin is considered "The World's Luckiest Fishing Village."
